Once in a while, I'll go see my Normandy

Updated: May 2, 2021

Like many of us do, at least a few times a year I feel the need to drive to my favorite coastal spots for an energy pitstop.

And one of them is definitely Trouville-sur-mer!

If Paris and Brighton had an oversea's child, Trouville would be their brat.

Set next to the very chic Deauville, famous for its cinema festival and horse races, Trouville is its little sister and feels much more laid back and popular.

Melancholy, color and grooming

Packed with charm, the area promenade offers oh so many beautifully maintained houses alongside a few forgotten manoirs and fishermen's houses, some of them set right on the beach, others on the surrounding heights.

Spending the weekend living on shellfish and belle époque vibes,

hitting towards the Monop' and Deauville's fancy morning market to check out the season's coastal it-wear, renting a bike and getting high on sea air, strolling the local flea markets... a combination of which will get you energized for all your upcoming operations.

Because first and foremost it's a lifestyle,

living amongst locals & Parisians (who'll act a little less Parisian than usual as they are not completely at home: Trouville-sur-mer is called "Paris plage" - "Paris beach" since so many Parisians head down there for the weekends), you will be spending quite some time on terrasses with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine depending on the hour, surrounded by thick cigarette smoke, in sizzling brasserie noises and of course the scent of sea and fish.

The perfect occasion for scrutinizing the "beau monde", pinning the chic French color tones of the moment and remembering how varieties of navy stripes are such a timeless pattern.

So why not bring all this fun and elegance into your home?

Marine fabrics, naval knots and beach shade color tones are a playful and strong base for a vitamin shot that can revive your decor.

And don't miss out on Honfleur which is not far off and contains loads of art galleries and vintage shops where you can expect to spot the decorative item you were longing to find.
